Carol is a passionate weaver and spinner with a deep connection to the land and a love for artisan crafts. Raised on stories of her grandfather’s sheep ranch in Montana, Carol’s craft is deeply influenced by her family history. The love her grandfather had for his sheep and the legacy of her grandmother, the first married woman to homestead in Montana, are woven into every piece she creates.
When her cousin Jeanie took over the sheep from their grandfather, Carol found a source for her raw materials. She learned to process the wool, spinning it into yarn and dyeing it in beautiful colors. Despite the eventual loss of the flock, Carol continues her craft, using other sources of wool to keep the family tradition alive.
In Carol’s hands, the process of turning raw wool into a finished product is slow and meditative, reminding her of a simpler way of life. From sorting and washing the fleece, to hand-combing and drum carding, to spinning it into beautiful yarn, each step is a labor of love. Carol also enjoys adding other fibers such as silk or bamboo to her works, creating unique pieces that reflect her creativity and passion.
Now an accomplished weaver and spinner, Carol finds joy in every step of the process, from the raw wool to the final woven piece. Her work is not just a testament to her skills, but also a reflection of her family’s legacy and her personal connection to the land. Through her craft, Carol invites you to appreciate the beauty of handmade items and the stories they tell.
